Mambo Marinette

I love doing custom work, so when I was asked to make a goddess figure from the New Orleans voodoo pantheon, I jumped at the chance. Marinette is a lesser-known loa and there are not a lot of illustrations of her. She is frequently represented on voodoo altars by a religious image known as the Anima Sola, or lost soul.

Marinette is a dark loa who is identified with the screech owl, so my doll carries her totem animal on one arm. She's the patroness of werewolves, which accounts for her red eyes. She carries a machete and wears broken manacles, which symbolize her power to free one from enslavement or to enslave one's enemies.
